Benefits of Acupuncture Treatment

Acupuncture is perhaps the oldest form of pain relief treatment known to humankind. It has a long history in Oriental medicine, and now it is being studied by the most modern scientific researchers. Studies have recently shown that acupuncture is indeed beneficial in many ways. Here are some practical benefits of the treatment.

Pain Relief

Acupuncture has been used successfully to treat pain of many kinds. Many people with chronic back pain have benefitted greatly from routine treatments. Pain associated with many of the activities and accidents in life can be helped by this method. From sports injuries to car wrecks, everyday life can cause pain and acupuncture can help it.

Safe Treatment

One of the most attractive aspects of acupuncture is that it is a very safe form of treatment for a variety of ailments. Unlike many drugs, this method gives virtually no side effects. It is safe for nearly everyone, regardless of their age or condition. Reputable acupuncturists use sterile needles; they may even use disposable ones. Therefore, there is very little risk of infection.

Comfortable Procedure

Many people who have not had acupuncture worry that the needles will hurt. Do not let that stop you. The truth is that very few people feel any pain at all with the needles. The people that do feel pain usually only feel a slight pain in one or a few spots. The needles are different than needles you are probably familiar with. They are not hollow like needles for getting shots or for having blood drawn. Because of this, they do not scrape and tear at the skin. The needles are smooth and slide right in. By the end of the procedure, most people feel calm and relaxed.

Emotional Relief

Acupuncture is also a very positive treatment for emotional problems. It can have an effect on mood disorders such as depression. It can reduce anxiety or stress. This method can assist people with obsessive-compulsive disorder. It may be beneficial for people with ADD/ADHD as well. Suffering with emotional disorders can be as psychologically painful as medical problems can by physically painful. Having this way of addressing the mind and emotions improves the lives of many.

Health Maintenance

Getting healthy may be an occasional need, but for many people the real value of acupuncture is in helping them to maintain their health. Staying relaxed goes a long way towards staying healthy. Keeping pain-free is the same. Yet acupuncture may go even farther than that. It may strengthen the immune system to keep you from getting sick. It could help you maintain your health by improving your sleep as well.

The benefits of acupuncture may go far beyond what you have ever dreamed. If you are concerned about any health or wellness needs in your life, it makes sense to learn more about acupuncture. You may like what you find.

The Problem with Back Pains

Back pains plague many people who might otherwise live a comfortable life. It is not normal to feel constant pain, but many people wake up every day with a backache and go to bed every night feeling the same way. The problem with back pains is that they disrupt your everyday life tremendously. Here are just a few of the secondary troubles associated with this pain.

1. Fitness

If you work out on a routine basis, you are likely very fit and healthy. You get up and move enough to keep the weight off and you exercise enough to keep your muscles toned and your bones intact. Yet if you are ever in an accident or have an injury that causes you back pains, your fitness level will likely go down. You will not be able to work out as much, if at all. Even taking a simple walk may be a problem for you. The pain in your back has a direct bearing on your overall fitness.

2. Work

Depending on what you do, you may not be able to perform your job at all if you are having severe back pains. A manual labor job may be out of the question. Even working in an office, sitting at a desk can be difficult if your back hurts enough to distract you from your work. If your office furniture is not ergonomically sound, your backache could get worse.

3. Sleep

It is hard to get a good night’s sleep when you are suffering from back pains. That is a shame, because sleep is essential in so many aspects of health. Getting poor sleep can be a factor in weight gain. It can cause inattention while doing important tasks such as driving, which can lead to car wrecks. Not sleeping can make it hard to study or multitask. It can lead to psychiatric problems such as severe anxiety. Sometimes, getting that needed sleep is as simple as treating the underlying back pains.

4. Spousal Relationships

There are many ways back pains can spoil a marriage or partnership. Just the fact that one of the partners is grumpy from the constant pain can be a burden. It is also a possibility that the partner with the back problems will become somewhat dependent on the other spouse, which can lead to resentments on both sides. Sexual dysfunction may also be a problem for the person with back pains and his spouse.

For all these reasons, anyone who suffers from back pains would do well to seek treatment. With the right professional to help you, there is no reason to live with all these disruptions to your life. Seeking treatment can have a domino effect, knocking down all those other nagging problems that are destroying your comfortable life.

Going to a chiropractor for the first time can be a scary proposition if you know nothing about the experience. Even if you have been to a chiropractor on a few occasions, you may be a little wary unless you truly understand the hallmarks of an outstanding professional in the field. Here are a few basic characteristics of competency to look for when you go.

Look for a chiropractor with a solid education and certifications before you ever submit to treatment.
She should have been to a chiropractic university. You should expect her to have at least four years of post-secondary schooling, if not a Bachelor’s degree followed by a specific course in chiropractic. Then, she should have passed any state exams, as well as the National Boards.

When your appointment begins, so should the questions.
A great chiropractor will take the time to listen attentively to all your symptoms. He will ask for clarification whenever it seems necessary. If you have left anything out, a knowledgeable chiropractor will usually be able to recognize the gap in information and ask the right questions to learn more.

The chiropractor will rule out other medical problems before doing anything else.
It is important to make sure that there are no underlying medical problems that are causing symptoms such as back pain. A proficient chiropractor may take X-rays and any other tests needed to rule out conditions she does not treat. However, a truly great Doctor of Chiropractic will never order unnecessary tests just to hike up the bill.

Next, the professional will do a thorough examination to assess your condition further.
She will move your arms and legs to discover your current range of motion. She will use her hands to feel your spine and other joints. This is one way she will discover structural distortions, called in chiropractic terms, subluxations.

A wonderful chiropractor will set up a reasonable treatment plan for you.
Any doctor can set up a plan where you go in as often as your insurance allows, or even oftener in some cases. It takes a disciplined professional to bring you in only when you need to come in. Your treatment appointments should usually be tapered off after the initial problem is dealt with and your body begins to return to normal.

A fantastic chiropractor is well-versed in spinal manipulation.
Although there may be some pain associated with having a chiropractic manipulation in some cases, it should always lead to an eventual improvement in symptoms. Someone who knows all the tricks and methods of manipulation will be able to help you rather than hurt you.

You will recognize a great chiropractor by his willingness to reevaluate.
Once you have begun treatment, your body should begin to change. You will see improvement if everything is going as it should. Reevaluations are necessary along the way. First, the doctor needs to make sure you are actually doing better and not worse, to keep ruling out medical problems that might come up. Second, some people heal faster than others, and the chiropractor should keep checking to make sure your improvement matches the treatments he is giving you. In the end, if you know how to identify the best, chiropractic treatment can be a powerful benefit in your life.

Yoga is an amazing way to change your body. It is entirely possible to tone your entire body using the wide variety of yoga poses available. The key to getting a toned body with yoga is depth and variety.

If you are new to yoga, you will experience your muscles in an entirely new way as you begin your yoga practice. Yoga pushes your muscles to work differently than exercises with barbells, bands, and weight machines. This is a good thing. Many who add a yoga practice to their physical routines port that the muscles become toned and grow to be leaner and longer than with other types of weights.

The best way to receive the toning results of yoga is to continually take your poses deeper. Pushing yourself further into each pose will require the activated muscles to work harder. You can also increase your body tone by holding each pose longer. Working muscles to the point of maximum potential is a technique used by body builders all of the time. You can use the same principle in yoga to build your muscles. The main difference is that yoga uses your own body weight so you can experience increased toning without becoming bulky like a muscle bound body builder.

Once you have mastered several yoga poses, it will likely be that you need to change up the poses that you are moving though. Variety is important to prevent a tone plateau. There are as many different yoga poses as there are people who practice yoga.

To give you an idea of which types of poses work which areas of your body, let’s look at a few of the most basic poses to see what they can do for you. You will be pleasantly surprised that the poses, while focusing on a main area, still provide muscle toning benefits to other areas of your body.

Dog Pose – Both upward dog and downward dog work your back muscles, which are essential to core strength and having a lean back to show off. You can go deeper into dog pose by lifting a leg into three-legged dog pose which also puts more weight on your arms, toning them as you go.

Plank Pose – Quite possibly the most well-known yoga pose, this move is used by almost all disciplines of exercise because it is so amazing at strengthening, and thereby toning, the body. The core muscles, arms, legs, and buttocks are all used in the plank pose. The longer you can hold this pose, the better your results will be. And when you are able to go deeper into this pose by using a number of different variations, you’ll see more toning results.

Intense East – For the more experienced yoga practitioner, this pose thoroughly works your triceps and upper back which keeping the back of your legs and buttocks working too.
